What are the Primary Values in the Code of Ethics for Nurses? by trazonkurt

Code of Ethics specifically is about ethical behavior that a person should follow and its behavior varies from one to another depending on what the situation calls for. It comprises of values that will contribute to the development and goodness of a person and community.

There are eight primary values that make the structure of Nursing Code of Ethics.

· Ethical Care that is Safe and Competent – Life is what they care for, and preventive care is what also they offer. It is one of the values that nurses should posses for with this they can perform their ethical duties and professional obligation to their clientele.

· Health and well-being – Part of nurses’ work is to ensure healthy body in the person they serve. So, nurses who have a value on health and well-being are more focused on their task so that optimum health level can be achieved.

· Choice – This is the value that makes nurses learn to respect the choice of the persons that surrounds them for they are simply present to serve a preventive care, give their best on what they do and helps persons to express their health needs. They can also extend a help in giving valuable information that can help other in decision making.

· Dignity – In this nurses learn to advocate respect treatment to person as a human being.

· Confidentiality – In their field of work nurses exhibit the secrecy of information or safeguard the information they got about their patient as a part of professional relationship. Revealing some information can somehow be done with the patients consent.

· Accountability – This is another value that bound within the Code of ethics for nurses. This shows full responsibility in every action they take as a part of the execution of their duties. Therefore their actions should be consistent with their standard practices and professional responsibility.

· Quality Practice Environment – Nurses are known for its systematic field of work. They value their quality practice environment that it should be equipped with the necessary resources to ensure safety, respect and support in all persons involved in their work. They also value the organizational structure so that information should pass according to the channel in flow of chart.
